What is homemaking, anyway?

Homemaking is often seen as a set of never-ending, dreaded cleaning tasks that need to be completed.

I don’t know about you, but that sounds completely boring to me!

Fresh Homemaking is dedicated to providing fresh inspiration & modern homemaking strategies to help you turn your house into a home.

At Fresh Homemaking, we want to re-write the script on what homemaking means. To us, homemaking means creating a home life you love whole-heartedly. No matter your season in life, we all deserve a home that provides a sacred energy where we can rest, laugh, and love. In our busy world, it’s a chance to slow down and release our creative energy into building a haven we love.

We’ll cover the fun stuff, like like how to make an instagram-worthy pie, beautiful cookbooks to add to your collection, and planning special home date nights with your partner.

But we’ll also cover the parts of turning a house into a home that aren’t as pinterest-perfect and take on the challenges modern households face, like how to navigate splitting household responsibilities with your spouse, how to keep the house clean when you work full-time, and other systems to put in place to make your home a retreat rather than source of stress.

Ready to create a home life you love? Join our community below to receive modern homemaking inspiration delivered fresh to your inbox! (Now if only we could deliver fresh dessert too)

About Natalie

Hey everyone, that’s me up there (with my amazing husband!). My name is Natalie and I am so happy you are visiting Fresh Homemaking.

I have a confession to make… I’m really not that great at homemaking at all. My house is rarely perfectly clean, I work full-time and don’t always get around to crossing everything off my to-do list, and my husband and I order pizza far more often than I’d like to admit.

So you may be wondering why I out of all people started a homemaking blog?

Because even though I’m far from perfect, I still crave a home that is welcoming, beautiful, organized and balanced. It’s my one little slice in this hectic world that I get to call my own and I want to make it the best it can be for my family. Ever since I was little and helping my grandma carefully set the table decorations for Easter, I have viewed homemaking as my favorite way to express my creativity.

I decided to start Fresh Homemaking after realizing many of the resources out there about homemaking didn’t resonate with me. I have a few beliefs about what homemaking means:

  1. Anyone can be a homemaker- regardless of if you have children, work outside or inside the home, or your religion, I believe we all can create a welcoming home we love.

  2. Homemaking ≠ cleaning. Sure, cleaning may be a part of homemaking, but in my opinion it’s the least important part! I love to focus on the more fun aspects, like recipes, traditions, & what truly makes a house a home.

  3. Homemaking isn’t about meeting expectations. I believe that homemaking should be done out of a place of love and inspiration, rather than out of a sense of obligation.

I’d love to get in touch with you about what you love about homemaking or what you would like to learn more about!
